“Mother’s Day Present” – by Diane

Can it be just a year ago we all met in Birmingham for this very special Mother’s Day weekend? Of all the concerts and shows I’ve been to, nothing compares to this very special evening under the stars at this lovely Alabama estate, sitting with about 150 Soul Patrollers, eating BBQ and drinking in these seven wonderful acoustic songs. Bliss.

“Dancing and Clicking His Heels” – by Diane

What a fabulous way to end Taylor’s Spring tour! I wasn’t going to this concert at first, but when I logged onto Ticketmaster and saw that I could get a first row seat on the aisle, I just bought it! I had gone to his first stop on the tour and realized I had to go to the last stop also. We quickly arranged flights, cars and hotels. Some friends bought a bouquet of beautiful peonies for me to hand to Taylor.
I saw my chance at the end of a song where he was standing quietly for a second at the mic. I handed him the bouquet and he thanked me and I turned around to go back to my seat and missed the best part. They told me that as he walked back to the drums to put down the flowers, Taylor jumped in the air and clicked his heels! I was sorry to miss that, but glad everyone else got to see it!
Another great part of the concert was when he was tagging “Big Boss Man” and jumped on the big floor speaker to play the harp and almost fell off! Then he ran across the stage, hitting hands. I was videoing and dropped my camera, not once, but twice! to slap hands, and kept on videoing! This concert ranks in my top 5. The music was wonderful and Taylor appeared so happy and playful.

“Floating Dance Floor” – by Diane

The building that this concert was held in was quite unique. It was originally built in 1914 as a ballroom and features a mechanical “floating” dance floor, thought at the time of its building to be the only one on the West Coast, and is potentially the only one still in existence in the United States. I can tell you that floor was jumping for Taylor’s concert!
After waiting for a couple of hours in line, we were able to get right in front of Loren’s keyboard. My friends Sarah and Danny and I were filling in the “dah, dah-dah, dah, dah” parts and shaking our fingers while Taylor was singing “Soul Thing.” At a point near the end of the song, Taylor walked over to Danny and did the “dah, dah-dah” and pointed right at him. It was so cool!

Georgia under California stars by beachn
Taylor performed under the stars at Pala Casino outside of San Diego. It was a most unique and glorious setting as the sun set and the stars twinkled. Taylor glowed in a gorgeous silver jacket as lights on the foliage behind him danced with different colors.
Everything in nature lined up for a perfect musical evening with Taylor and the band that night.

California is “The Right Place” by MusicFan
Taylor Hicks at his finest! My capture of “The Right Place” has some distortion as we were seated quite close to a bank of speakers and my small camera just couldn’t handle it. It was a great night for Taylor and his band, and “The Right Place” is always a show-stopper. This night was no exception. I hope you enjoy!

“All of a sudden…BOOM!” – by Lacey

On May 1, 2007, Taylor Hicks came to Tempe Arizona! My mom and I were astounded by the fact that he would even come to Arizona.
A few days before the concert, my mom found out that she had won a meet and greet with him! Right away, my mom knew she was going to give me the opportunity to have a few brief minutes with Taylor.
I walked up with a big smile on my face handing my stuff for him to sign to his friend. I stuck out my hand and said “Hi! I’m Lacey.” Taylor replied, “Hello Lacey” and offered me the seat next to him. He started signing my CDs and asked me if I liked his music. I replied with a witty comment of, “Of course I do! Would I be here if I didn’t!?!” He laughed and said, “Well that’s good.” After that, we took a picture. I realized that I forgot to ask him to sign my Modern Whomp shirt, when all of a sudden…
BOOM!! The left side of the fold-out table collapsed. Apparently, Taylor and his friend were messing around and it fell. Taylor was not injured in the incident thank goodness!
We all laughed and so I managed to squeeze into the line again. I went up and said, “I’m so sorry! I forgot to ask you to sign my shirt!” Taylor said, “It’s alright, come on over.” So, I sat down yet again and he signed my shirt. Now my way of saying thank you was …”Taylor, you’re awesome.” Taylor laughed and replied with, “You’re awesome too, darlin’.” MAJOR SQUEEEEE MOMENT!!
We got our tickets checked off and smoothly and very sneakily ran over to the front row, dead center section before anyone else did. We were four feet away from Taylor for the entire concert!! He did an outstanding job and it was a concert of a lifetime. One I shall never forget! Oh and a little note: when I shook his hand…it was so soft!
