Long Way Home, Hard Rock! – by RagsQueen

Every time Taylor performs at a House of Blues, the performance is of the highest energy level imaginable! And since Hard Rock Live is much like House of Blues (except you could sit in Orlando), I had very high expectations, and I was not disappointed!

The opening montage brought the audience to its feet! And it was still standing when Taylor took the stage singing “Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu” and “Hey Pockey Way”. The energy was high and Taylor was smiling like he just won the lottery! Yes, this was going to be a fantastic show!

Through out the evening, we were either sitting or standing, depending on the beat of the song. And it seemed that even those who did sit down did so reluctantly! Many of us were dancing in our seats – it was hard to sit still! But then, it’s generally hard to sit still for a Taylor Hicks show anyway! Sit or stand, stand or sit, that’s always the dilemma which usually gets resolved based on house rules and set up.

The seats at Hard Rock Live were interlocking for the first several rows. During the time between the main set and encore, fans behind the first several rows were doing everything possible to separate those seats so they could move to the stage. For those of in these few rows, we had to move quickly to keep from been trampled in the stampede!

The concert was one of the summer’s best. High energy on a hot Florida night.

A HOT night in Pompano Beach – by Debbie in Florida

Pompano

It was a great night. We (Allison & I) met so many other soul patrollers while waiting for the concert, and I can say that they are a very special group. Soul Patrollers are good friends. We share our common hobby – TAYLOR! On to the show…

It was a hot night in Pompano Beach. It is always hot in South Florida, and Taylor being there made it even Hotter! Security lost total control of us!!! The crowd was very enthusiastic to see Taylor. Taylor would pose for pictures while he was singing and dancing. We had our dancing shoes on that night, and Taylor Gave Us Tonight!!!! He looked so happy, relaxed, and really in his element… I had roses again for Taylor, and I gave them to him during Heaven Knows. He held them in the air, and the crowd cheered!!!

A few of our new friends joined Allison & I to go to Ft. Lauderdale after the concert. We were invited to go see Josh play at “The Poorhouse”. Josh is from Ft. Lauderdale, and his family & friends were all there. While at The Poorhouse, guess who happened to walk in the door? Yes, it was Taylor. Taylor got up on stage (very shyly I might add), and sang two songs.

It was an amazing night!

I Want To Take You Higher – by PBoyers

The Clearwater show was magical. I remember the the excitement in the audience and that people, including myself, were dancing in the aisles. When he started singing this tag…. I knew I was in a Taylor-made heaven. This really touched me and it is a night I will always treasure.

Where is My Badge! – by Beachn

dothan

It is always such a treat to watch Taylor Hicks perform in his home state of Alabama, but Dothan was very special for another reason.  Dothan is the hometown of Taylor’s good friend Wynn Christian.  Taylor was just thrilled to have Wynn on stage with him again.  This song just went on and on as Taylor and Wynn grooved on together.

A Fool For You – by Diane

cry so loud

This concert was at a high school gymnasium in the middle of New Jersey.  It was pouring rain like nothing I had seen before.  I had poor seats and wasn’t expecting much.  But Taylor put on a spectacular show that surprised all of us. This Ray Charles tag in the middle of “The Maze” is probably my one of my favorite moments of the Summer Tour.  How does he do this – bring us to chills with his ability to wring the pain out of a song and then a minute later thank US for letting him do it?

Staten Island! Staten Island! – by Diane

StatenIsland-LongWayHomecap

Staten Island was the place that I got invited to talk to Taylor for a while backstage. The Summer tour was beginning to wind down with maybe 3 weeks left and Taylor’s association with The Firm had just ended. Perhaps he was trying to reach out to express some of his thoughts at this point – I don’t know. I think he has done that with fans from time to time.

To me, Taylor seemed to be expressing something from his heart that he was trying to get the words for from his head. He began to explain that an artist can go to a certain point and then needed to regroup and get back to his “cave” to visit his muse. He needed some time to think and to write and that was what he was going to be doing when the tour ended.

Next he began to talk about how much he appreciated his fans. Not once, but several times, he repeated how touched he was by everything that people had done for him and how the fans had supported him. He stressed that he wanted everyone to understand that while he would be out of sight working, he would not forget the fans….ever.

Then someone yelled to the band and crew that the show was going to start in 5 minutes. He asked if I went to all the fan boards, which I did, and he said, “please be sure to thank everyone for their support for me. It means a lot to me.”

The next night in Tom’s River, NJ, he told the crowd, “I love you guys. Fans, you know….fans are like my family….it’s always been that way…..and thank you.”

Long Way Home – by Amyrebo

Taylor’s solo tour had finally made its way to my home state. It was an incredible show. The crowd found Taylor’s rhythm and stayed with it all night. Taylor and the band were feeling the audience’s love and showed it in return. When he did “Long Way Home,” my heart was right on stage with him. I thought it was one of his best performances that I had seen live.
